If you've talked baseball with us for any length of time, you've probably heard us mention that behind the scenes we crunch every MLB stat we can get our hands on, hitters and starting pitchers included, not just the relievers you see here on Inside the Pen.
That led to a fair question from a number of friends and longtime visitors: if you already have all that data, why not put it on Inside the Pen too? Honestly, it never felt like the right fit. Inside the Pen is built around one thing, and we're a little protective of it: expert, focused bullpen analysis. We never wanted to dilute that by bolting on a bunch of loosely related stats.
But the more those conversations happened, the clearer it got that a lot of you (more than we expected) are after a clean, accurate source for daily stats and starting lineups. So instead of forcing it in here, we gave it its own home.
Say hello to Inside the Lineup, a sister site with all the hitter and starting pitcher stats you could want, plus the same style of advanced matchup analysis and data categorization we're known for.
Everything on Inside the Lineup is published for our Inside the Pen member base. The vast majority of the stats are free for any member to view; a handful of advanced analytics categories, along with the daily fantasy projections, are reserved for paid subscribers.
We carried over the data-categorization approach ITP members like and built a few new ones for the other side of the ball:
The best part for current members: your existing Inside the Pen login works on Inside the Lineup too. No separate signup, no new password. Head over and you're already in.
Some of this is still in flux, the daily fantasy projections especially, so treat those as a work in progress and not gospel for now. We'd rather get it in front of you and refine it in the open than sit on it until next season to decide whether it's worth continued development effort.
And full disclosure: down the line, Inside the Lineup will probably either become an add-on product or stay a free, slightly slimmed-down resource to keep costs manageable. We haven't decided yet, and that's part of why it's out now.
Either way, for the moment, it's on us. Check it out and let us know if you have any feedback.
